About Reed College Digital Collections

Reed College Digital Collections consists of more than 80,000 images and other digital materials, including works of art, photographs, maps, and primary source documents. The collections are maintained in Reed’s CONTENTdm digital asset management system, which has been designed to support the use of digital materials in the curriculum, to provide in-class presentation and teaching tools, and to facilitate access to the collections outside of class for study and research.

Reed College received grants from the Keck and Booth Ferris Foundations to acquire a digital content management system (CONTENTdm), hire staff, and acquire content to support teaching with digital images. The digital asset management program is an active collaboration between Computing and Information Services, the library, and the Visual Resources Collection. Staff from these departments work in collaboration with faculty members to maintain and build collections, enhance system capabilities and design customized web interfaces, and develop metadata and cataloging practices to support access to the digital collections. The result is a dynamic, central repository that supports Reed’s curriculum for students and faculty inside and outside the classroom.
